First Aid treatment in School
The majority of staff at Newbald Primary School are trained first aiders. We also have several members of staff who have completed the ‘Paediatric’ first aid course.
All staff have a duty of care to the children and will attend to children who have minor scratches, cuts or bruises etc. (for example, falling and cutting themselves in the playground).
When first aid is administered the child will receive a First Aid slip detailing what happened and the treatment they received at the time, which they can pass on to their parents at the end of the day.
For more serious incidents, or incidents requiring immediate medical attention parents will be contacted by a member of staff straight away.
Medicines
It is expected that parents/carers will normally administer medication to their children at home. No medication will be administered without prior written permission from the parents/carers. A ‘Parental agreement for school to administer prescribed medicine’ form must be completed. Over the counter/un-prescribed medication will not generally be administered by school staff. There are a few exceptional circumstances when this may be undertaken, but must be agreed in advance by the Headteacher. Eg: School residential – when it would be detrimental to the child’s health not to be given the medication. It may be necessary to seek clarification form your family GP prior to agreement.
