We are particularly proud of our Design and Technology provision. We have created  a bespoke, cross curricular framework  for Design & Technology that enables the children at Newbald to aquire key knowledge and skills from themoment they enter the school from Nursery.  Our children take part in three Design and Technology 'weeks' annualy where they complete a variety of textile, construction and food related projects. D&T Progression of Vocabulary

Class 3 Medieval Catapults

Class 3 have been learning about the Middle Ages. They have researched Medieval catapults and how they were used in battle during the Middle Ages. They measured wood carefully and used the saws safely to create a timber frame. They used card triangles to strengthen the structure of the catapult. They used straws and dowel to create a hinge for their leaver arm.

Class 2 Scottish Food D&T Video

Squirrel class have been learning about Scotland. They have researched Scottish foods and have used their cookery skills to create a Scotch broth.

Class 4 D&T Sewn Maps

Otter Class have learnt how to use a variety of different stitches to embroider a sewn textile map as part of their maps and rivers topic.

Class 4 Design & Technology Ancient Greek Cam Toys

Otter Class have learnt about cam mechanisms and they have designed and made ancient Greek inspired toys incorporating these cam mechanisms.

Class 1 D&T Julia Donaldson 'Tiddler' Textiles

Our Foundation Stage have been experimenting textiles and joining techniques. They have had great fun designing and making textile characters from the Julia Donaldson story, Tiddler.

Class 2 Design & Technology Fire Engines

Our Key Stage 1 class have been learning about the Great Fire of London. They have researched fire engine toys with working axles. They have designed and made their own fire engines with working lights and axles to make the wheels move.

Year 3&4 D&T Roman Bread

Class 3 have been learning about the Romans. They have researched how the Romans made bread and have used some more modern methods to create their own recipes for their design and technology project.

Year 5&6 World War 1 D&T Cooking a meal using rations

Otter Class researched rationing during World War 1 and used their cookery skills to create a recipe using food that would have been available during the time of World War 1.

Class 1 D&T Seaside Fruit Kebabs

Hedgehog Class have learnt how to prepare foods for a seaside picnic as part of their 'beside the seaside' topic. They have prepared (and tasted) different fruits to create a 'seaside' fruit kebab.

EYFS Woodwork Bench

Children in our Early Years setting also learn to use woodworking tools safely as soon as they start with us. The children learn about safety and they have to demonstrate skills to get their 'wood work bench licence'. More information about our wood-work bench can be found on the EYFS page.
